Is splitting up the RSU5 a good idea?!

I interviewed three people from Durham asking them if they think it is a good idea to split up the RSU5 here are the responses I got. It was pretty straightforward and easy to put this together I didn't really have any trouble with it.  I think it is very understandable to read.

Problems with RSU5 splitting as a regional school unit.
RSU5 consists of Freeport, Durham and Pownal. After being a part of RSU5 for five years, Freeport wants out. Freeport votes the budget up, but nine times out of ten Durham and Pownal vote the budget down. Because the taxes in Durham and Pownal will go up almost double what they are now in Freeport the taxes will only increase a little for everyone because there's so many more people in the town of freeport. Freeport could take on more of the financial burden because of school is already here.
I feel that the RSU5 should not split up. First of all, The kids in Durham and Pownal will have the chance to further their education. Secondly, it sets the eighth-graders up for knowing exactly where they have to go.  I feel them not having a choice is better for them at that age because if you give the kids the choice they are only going to go where their friends are going. Not to the school that better suits their needs. Lastly, It pulls the whole community together and  tries to make everyone work towards one goal.
Hannah Hall, from Durham, feels that the RSU5 should not split up. "I think that the RSU has become a positive thing for all students in every school.  Programs for recreation have been improved because of the larger number of students involved.  Teachers have been able to collaborate which has helped their own practices and curriculum in general." Additionally, it's better that Durham does not have the choice to go to two different schools. Durham also has more voice on the school board than it did before, which is for the school to improve its education.
Am anonymous source from Durham also states "Think it would be better to remain with the RSU.  We have received a lot of benefits from being together, many programs shared, people shared, etc."
On the other hand, people that are for the withdrawal such as Diane Chabot, from Durham, agrees to split from the RSU. "I don't think these three towns merging was a good fit.  Durham has always been the "middle sister", not always getting their needs met because Freeport always came first." I do not believe Freeport always comes first considering Durham got a brand-new school.  Durham can't seem to come to an agreement on Freeport getting a new school because Durham already got what they wanted and  Doesn't seem to care about Freeport.
I feel we were put together as RSU5 for a reason are we should stick to that. I think going off old information is not a relevant reason to split us up. I think we can make it work I just think there's going to be a lot of bumps in the road on the way to get everyone on the same page.

Is Valentine's Day what it comes out to be?!

I interviewed a couple on what they're look for Valentine's Day is. Is it really all about chocolates and flowers. Or just some people see it as more of spending time with one another? This is what I got out of Bo and Kim when I interviewed them. It was very hard sometimes because they pretty much had the same answer for everything so it was hard to split it up but I think I managed it well.

Most people consider Valentine's Day as a holiday for love and compassion for a significant other. What Valentine's Day means to one person versus another can be different or it can also be the same. Guys do not usually expect much. Bo Donahue  a chef at opus 10 says  "No I don't expect anything, we don't usually do much for Valentines Day. But I do usually get some candy and a funny card."
Many times there Is a difference between men and women but in this case Bo Donahue and his wife Kim Donahue have a similar opinion on what Valentine's Day is to them. Kim and Bo have been married for just over a year. It was interesting to get their responses. Kim said, "Nice things are always nice, but I certainly don't need or expect them. And will never be disappointed if I don't get an expensive gift."
When interviewed Kim felt that Valentine's Day "...is a day to really feel and remember all of the reasons why you love each other. Its so easy to get caught up in the day to day busy life schedules and forget to remember why you really fell in love". It seems that women find Valentine's Day to be about love and caring for each other. Most men feel just buying chocolates and flowers on Valentine's day is a enough because this is what has become of our society to the world. In Bo's case he and his wife Kim feel that not about the gifts for them it's mostly about being with each other.  As Bo stated "It means a day that you share appreciation to someone that means a lot to you."
Both Bo and Kim did not find Valentine's Day to be the most expensive holiday for them. They preferred time with each other over things purchased for each other. As Kim stated "I don't do much for Valentines Day, I consider Christmas much more expensive. I feel very secure in my relationship and don't feel the need to get him a bunch of things to prove my love. I will get a few little things, like his favorite candy and a card, but mainly we just like to spend time together." A commercial about Valentine's Day is "Every kiss begins with K" and this commercial portrays the opposite of their idea of Valentine's Day.
Since their relationship is so focused on spending time together on Valentine's Day they usually make plans to spend time together. Kim said "We will sometimes go out to dinner. Usually Bo will bring home some chocolate covered strawberries that he made for us at work, and a bottle of champagne. I make sure to buy a lot of his favorite candy, and try to find a funny card for him."
Society has shown us that Valentine's Day has to be a day where you care for one another more than any other day. Although it should not matter what day it is, you should always care for the other person the same way. Kim commented, "A lot of guys in relationships think of it as a burden, because a lot of girls expect their guy to do special things for them, and get them nice things." Too much spending takes away from the love you have for each other because people can get caught up trying to find the right thing to buy, but money is not always happiness.  Kim said "I think lots of people have high expectations for the day, and could easily be let down. I also think the media hypes up the day too much. It's kind of a Hallmark holiday, and there are standard things you are supposed to get such as, chocolates, roses, cards, jewelry, etc."
Throughout my interview people have realized that society views Valentine's Day as a day people need to fulfill each other with lots of gifts. But in this case both Bo and Kim seem to fulfill  Valentine's Day with love for each other.

Awesome vox pops!

This is my vox pop I went around asking people what their favorite breakfast food was this is just a couple of the responses I got from people. I find it very interesting to ask people what their favorite breakfast food is because it is so many varieties people come up with some interesting and good foods. I'm weaknesses that I have making a vox pop is a sound quality is never good no matter how hard I try those comes out sounding like a wind tunnel. But I Hope you enjoy it!

My senior movie

This is Cody McEnery Senior Moive
For the past year Cody has been making his senior movie. It's is not as exciting and fun and incredible like a lot of peoples senior movie might be but he thinks it is one-of-a-kind and it's just the way He wants it to be. He really has not enjoyed his senior year at all because all he does is the same thing he's done for the past three years which is incredibly boring. But they all have to do it so he thinks he made the best of it.
First, Cody sets himself up for the past three years to take a very easy courseload during his senior year and that is what he did. He tried doing a class at region 10 and did not like it at all. He thought he would like it a lot more than he did but he did not so he just drop the class.
Because Cody wasn't going to spend his entire senior year doing something that he did not like, instead of doing the pre-apprenticeship that was at region 10, He decided just to do work-study, Which is very nice. He goes to school every other day and the days that he does not go to school, he goes and works extra time on top of his normal work schedule, which is nice it gives him more money to play around with, which is good.
Some people need to hang out with people to feel good about themselves but what makes him feel accomplished is working, like He could work from 7am to 8pm everyday and he would feel perfectly fine. Cody is the only star actor in his movie Because he's awesome. He does not find his senior moive boring but he thinks a lot of people will because a lot of people his age are not for working all the time. I feel a good age group of people to read this pretty much anyone that wants to I don't think it's inappropriate for anyone. Rated G.
What you might find fun about his senior year Is he can make it however he wanted it to be. The school let him do this which He appreciate very much. But a big part of what He does not appreciate of the school is a lot of the stuff we have learned for the past four years he will never use in his life he knows everyone says you're going to use it you're going to regret not taking that class but seriously, he won't. He has done the classes He's needed and the ones He wants.  But one class that drives him crazy is history. It's seriously a complete waste of time if you ask him and he does not know why He need to know who carved into what rock what year, He really doesn't care never will need to know. He can go on and on but He is just going to bore you but there are parts of the school that are kind of good.

Geri's Game

In the film I watch the old man was playing chess with himself on one side he is nice thoughtful and on the other side he was very mean. The old man is the only performer in the film. In the beginning of the film he is setting up the chessboard and then he was starting to play chess with himself. That went pretty well but the nice thoughtful man on one side almost lost. Until at the end where he pretend to have a heart attack (I think) so the man that he was pertaining to play against wouldn't notice that he turned the whole board around and won the game. Then the man who lost had to give him his teeth. I think this was a very interesting film but didn't really make perfect sense to because the old man tricked himself which doesn't really have any meaning to it. Because the man just goes back and forth from both sides of the table. It gets kind of boring and repetitive it doesn't keep you interested through the entire film. I think it would be better if they just separate person instead of him pretending to play against himself.

Are movie reviews good or not?!

  • If you are thinking about seeing a particular movie, would you consult a movie review for a recommendation? Why or why not? Yes I would because then I know If I'm wasting my money or not. And I don't want to sit and watch something for two hours that I don't like.
  • What types of useful information can a movie review offer you? List as many as you can. How stars it's rated, how popular it is, how many people know of the movie or have already watched it
  • How often do you think young people consult movie reviews before watching a movie? I feel quite often because they want to watch a movie they like.
  • What aspects about movie reviews make them a positive or negative influence on your decision to watch the movie? If the movie is not rated good. Probably won't watch it. Unless it's something I know I like.

I find this very funny!!!!

I find it unbeliever that people would do such a thing. I feel so bad for the owners of those smart cars!  They flip 4 of them.

Our Crazy College Crossroads

— What is your reaction to Mr. Bruni’s idea that where you go to college matters less than “the effort you put into your studies, the earnestness with which you hone your skills, what you actually learn”?
Yes I agree that it's more about who you are then what school you really want to go to. It doesn't matter what school you go to it's all on what you put into it.
— If you’re a student who is finished with the college process, what advice would you give high school juniors?
If you didn't get into your favorite school it's not the end of the world because you can make yourself succeed somewhere else just as well.
— What is your idea of what the perfect college for you might be? Why?
A school where it is very hands-on and there's not a lot of bookwork. It would benefit from the school that is built around my strength.
— In the end, how much do you think it matters where you go to college? Why?
I don't think it really matters where you go to college because I think you can make yourself succeed just as good no matter where you go it's all in yourself.

SAT vs work life

  • — If you were on a hiring committee at a workplace, would you consider SAT scores as part of an applicant’s materials? No I do not think that would be a good workplace committee because the way the SATs are now is very inaccurate does not follow what we do in schools.
  • — Should there be an expiration date on the scores’ being considered as part of a prospective employee’s application? If so, what should it be? I think it should have a date for like 5 years after you take it. After the five years they do not look back to it because it is not accurate if you were to take more schooling. But if you do not further your schooling and you can still use it as an accurate reading of ability.
  • — What if a job applicant did not take the SAT? Do you think some employers would penalize that person? How should this situation best be handled, in your opinion? Unfortunately some employers do for example Google does. It's based on the employer opinion whether not they want to use it. Believe more and more employers are not using it as check for ability level.

Scientists Sound Alarm on Climate

— How much have you learned about climate change in school? What do you believe about it?

I haven't really learned or done much with it. I don't really remember doing anything with it in school.   But we might have done stuff with in and I just don't remember.  So I don't really know anything about it.

— How compelling do you find this most recent report to be?

It's was ok. If I new more about it I think it would be more compelling then it is now.

— How much does the topic concern you in general? Why?

I feel like It should concern me a lot more then it's does, and I don't think anyone is really that  concern about it because I don't really ever hear about it much from anyone. Maybe sometimes on the  news.

Are fraternities good or bad?

— Do you want to join a fraternity or sorority? Why or why not?
No I would not want to join a fraternity. The reason why I would not join is because, Frat houses are mostly terrible. They seem to be a distraction from learning.   I don't see see what purpose they serve.
— What do you think fraternities could do to police themselves? Is what Sigma Alpha Epsilon doing enough?
Fraternities could police other fraternities to ensure that the rules are fairly being followed.  Yes Sigma Alpha Epsilon has done enough by out right banning pledging.  However I think Fraternities should be banned all together.
— What do you think would be lost if there were no fraternities on college campuses? What might be gained? Would banning fraternities substantially lessen problems like sexual violence and alcohol-fueled injuries and deaths on college campuses or not?
I think there would be some bonding and grouping people with the same likes, would be lost if fraternities were to be banned altogether. What would be gained is a decrease in sexual related violence and alcohol related injuries for I think they would be greatly lessened if fraternities were banned.

Thumbnails editorials

"Weather in Maine" One day it's nice, happy, fun then in with 5 mins the weather turns to rain, snow, ice and really really cold Maine weather is nice if you don't mind how often is changes. In Fall, Spring and Summer everything is good.

"Bumper stickers" Are sometimes very funny or very inappropriate I think it's ok to have just a few bumper stickers. If you fill the back of your car with them it is very distracting for other drivers

"Spending a lot of money on Prom" It's always good to have nice things and fit in with others but if your that one kid that has everything and you look like a show off no one is going to respect you as much as you think they would.

"Facebook" is good. When people use is responsibly But a lot of time facebook is use to bully others make people feel that they are less then you. To make people feel better. I do use facebook. But I feel the way other people use it is not right.

"Lying" Happens way to often and no one really knows it. People lie to get people to like them or spend time with them. Lying happens across the world. Everyone does it really no way how to change it.

"School lunch" Is school lunch. It's not going to be the best food you eat. But it is food and it's always there if you need it. I've never found anyone in a school that says the lunch is soooo good come try it.

Senior privileges" I think Freeport high school is pretty good with their senior privileges. They're pretty free about what they have people do. As long as you follow the rules on what you're supposed to do. They really don't mind what you do. As long as they approve it.

"Spending money" Everyone spends money depends on what you want to spend on what you need to spend. Spending money is something people see what class you are. Is how much money you have to spend. Really doesn't  matter how much money you have it does not make the person you are.

"Having a job or getting a job" having a job is nice because you always have money or you're able to save your moeny. Getting a job is the first step actually growing up.

"Being yourself" being yourself important many people try to be someone else to be friends with someone. It's not worth it just be yourself it was all laid out in the end. And there's no need to be someone else to be friends with someone.

Do you have control over your fate??

— How much control do you think you have over your fate?
I feel that I have a lot of control over my own fate, because of how I grew up.  The way I grew up was all over the map, so I feel it has made me more independent and self sufficient.

— Do you feel your fate is already predetermined by your lineage — your parents and ancestors? Or do you feel you are in the driver’s seat in determining your own success?
I am in control of my success and life.  I've grown up always learning how to be more independent and take care of myself.

— Do you think you will be better or worse off than your parents? In what ways? Why?
I feel more similar to my mother than my father. My mother is a very strong and independent person and I really admire that in her. No matter how hard things get she always makes things work out.  I feel like I will end up being like her, because we are already very similar.
I've learned more hands on practical life skills from my father.  I feel like he has a very weak character and has a hard time doing what is good for himself. I am not, and will not end up like my father.

— The author makes the argument that “the compulsion to strive, the talent to prosper and the ability to overcome failure are strongly inherited.” Do you think you inherited these qualities? Or do you think you had to develop them on your own?
I feel like it's been 50/50. I have had to make things work for myself out of necessity. My mother has been a strong influence on my strength and determination to always make life better.

Pulitzer Prize Winning Editorials

Step 1:  Opening Activity: What is a Pulitzer Prize? With your group, read the link, and come up with a 1-2 sentence working definition.
Year-long process where a panel of judges try to figure out who is the best journalist is.

Step 2: In your groups discuss the following questions.  You should record your answers on your individual blog.
  1. Who was the writer/writers and for which publication? Tod Robberson, Colleen McCain Nelson and William McKenzie were awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2010 for The Dallas Morning News.
  2. What was the PURPOSE of their editorials? (See "citation" tab)  The purpose of their editorials is clearness of style, moral purpose, sound reasoning, and power to influence public opinion.
  3. After reading a few of the articles, describe what types of resources they used and approximately how many in any given editorial. For the article "planning for success". Sources they used car Maps, statistics, Interviewed people, The Dallas morning news. "10 Drops in the Bucket" is also from the Dallas morning news. They interviewed the town and people that have a lot of information about the 10 Drops in the Bucket.
  4. Did you detect any bias? Explain.  Cite specific passages. "Allen has successfully steered his company, The Allen Group, around all but one of these challenges. One remains: a proposed 230,000-acre master plan for the port and surrounding communities that could create new development rules, environmental stipulations and other regulations scaring away investors." Yes I did detect bias. I think he should of let us decide if his company was successful. "For months, several of southern Dallas' ugliest eyesores have been winding their way through the legal processes that precede a demolition. Meanwhile, neighbors have waited and watched. Will today be the day that the bulldozers finally clear these blots on the landscape?" I detect bias again because some people may not think they're all  ugly some people might think they're fine.
  5. How does the format, tone, and length of an editorial differ from a feature article? I find these articles to have a lot more depth than a future article. I feel the format is the same also is the length. The tone is not as personal as a future article. It's more of a news not someone.

The different than someone else

WHAT is your opinion: Is everyone creative, and can everyone learn to be more so? WHY or WHY not?

I feel that if you have the right activities I feel that anyone can be created. Yes, You can as long you are not afraid to fall. Anyone can be as creative as they want. But you have to accept failure.

.–What problems on these students’ lists also annoy you?
Confusing parking signs and people that takes selfie. Poeple that Skype until four in the morning.
–What problems at your school or in your home or neighborhood can you identify? Having falcon. And flex. In the middle of the day. Find it to be a huge waste of time for our school day.
–How could you solve at least one of them?
Solution have the whole school do something for an hour such as a play and you will practice that played for a month and then you can show it to the whole school. Then start with something different for the next month.
–Do you wish you could take a class in creative studies? Why or why not?

Yes do you wish I could take a class like that. I think it would be a lot different than all of the generic classes. It was open up a different section in your mind.

Art of the interview

Don't ask yes or no questions, make it short and don't charge your words
What are Sawatzki's rules of interviewing?
Don't ask yes or no questions,
make it short
and don't charge your words

What are things not to do when interviewing?

Try not to make your questions more import then the answer.
and try not to make the person feel like they are less then the questions.
Don't make it about yourself.

What troubles or challenges have you encountered when conducting interviews?
I have trouble coming up with good follow-up questions and trying not to just get yes or no. Finding the right people to interview is hard too.

What can you do in future interviews to elicit more detailed and informative responses?

Ask more open ended questions and find people that are more knowledge about the questions. And I think the interviews will go better.

Who does hip-hop belong to nowadays?!?

  • Who does hip-hop belong to?
  •  I think hit-hop can belong to everyone that is good enough to do it.

  • Are white artists who prosper in hip-hop robbing from black musicians? Or is music fair game for all true fans? I think it's fair game.
  • If are good enough to do it why shouldn't you be allowed to do it!!!!

  • Should Macklemore be apologizing? Is his apology sincere? Is it appropriate?
  •  I feel his apology is not sincere was is very kidish.

A Semester in Reflection

Dear Readers,

In my past English classes I've never been able to develop my true writer's voice but this semester I have found there have been many more opportunities for me to develop my own style and voice within my pieces of writing. In addition to this, I found I struggle with smoothly connecting ideas and moving seamlessly to a conclusion. Conversely, I found that I was able to expose my writer's voice more than ever and could really feel it come out in my writing.

The first piece that I chose for my portfolio was my College Essay. I chose this piece because I felt it really shows my unique style of writing and my personality. While writing this piece, I started by really thinking about how to make mine stand out from the others and also express my feelings with a sufficient amount of depth. In the middle of the writing process, I came to realizations about the topic I was writing that I did not initially intend to come to. In other words, my writing process helped me to more fully explore the topic at hand. I think the strongest part of my college essay is the strong visual and sounds aspects of the opening paragraph. I think this is best shown in these short quotes from my essay, “...the warmth of the sun with a gentle breeze...” and “...quiet peaceful place where the wind whistles through the trees...”. In terms of my goals, I think my goal of getting an essay to flow all the way through was met well in this piece but I feel it fell short of achieving a particularly satisfying conclusion, which is part of what I worked on in the revision.

The second piece I chose for my portfolio was Personal Profile. I decided to use this piece because through my writing I felt it effectively connected readers to the kind of person Caitlin is. The writing process was a litter bit different for this piece because I interviewed Caitlin Buryn through email. It created a difficult set of challengers such as not being able to expand on an interesting piece of the interview and it was hard to come up with the right questions to ask, especially follow-up questions because the interview was not face-to-face. I feel like the strongest part of this essay was the way I added the quotes from Caitlin's interview to help readers get a better idea of her. I think I helped to best get her attitude across in this quote from essay “She likes to look at every situation that is challenging and tries to better understand the person. 'I always try to find a positive way to look at things. It's easy to get caught up in the 'life and death' of any situation, you can't let it get you down.'”. I don't feel there are any major weaknesses in this piece but maybe the end could have used a little but of work to maintain the same tone throughout. The goal of creating a well thought out and personal profile of a person was met quite well in this piece, readers definitely get a good idea of who Caitlin is and how her attitude affects her success as a manager. This has a similar problem to my other piece because in both of their endings I had a hard time wrapping up everything that I wanted to say without breaking the flow of the writing.

Overall, I feel that my writing has improved significantly through this semester in class though I still have a long way to go in developing my voice and creating effective conclusions for my writing. However, it is better than it has ever been before and I hope to improve even further.

Sincerely,

Cody McEnery

Draft Letter for 'Experience as Education'

Dear Reader,
My favorite thing about my personal profile was that I could relate to the career that Caitlin is pursuing. Equine management is something I might want to do in the future. It easier to write this profile because Caitlin and I have a similar passion towards caring and managing horses. The other personal profile I completed was very challenging to write because I couldn't relate to Sommer's passion for art. This made it hard for me to create a piece that was well put together since I am not into art like I am with horses.
In writing this piece It would have been helpful to ask more follow-up questions because it was very difficult to write about her without more information. The answers she gave were very general and she needed to expand on the questions, so if I had more opportunity to ask good follow-up questions it would allow me to expand a lot more on the whole piece of writing. If Caitlin would have expanded more and I asked more about the topic I would have also gotten to know her better.

I believe the reader will find that Caitlin is exceptionally good at what she does. If it wasn't for the people who gave her on the job experience and the great example her mom gave of how to deal with difficult clients, she wouldn't be good as she is. One way she is exceptional at her job is how she make sure the owners don't burn bridges between them and their clients. This happens because she is looking at each situation trying to better understand the person and her outlook is to be positive.

What really worked in this personal profile is using quotes and using her voice so that readers could feel like they were there when she was in the interview. By sharing the quotes it shows that she really enjoys what she does. I gave clear examples on each interview question so the reader can envision the situation that is happening. A difficult situation I encountered while writing the personal profile was doing it through email. This was very challenging to get Caitlin's voice into the piece not being face-to-face. Having a face-to-face interview leaves more opportunity to fill-in the the gaps of information. I believe I did a very good job of putting her voice into the writing despite the fact we did it through email.
Sincerely,
Cody McEnery

Experience as Education

How would it feel to work with someone who always makes the right choices and seems to never make mistakes? Someone I know and work is that talented and that person is Catlin Buryn. She manages a boarding facility named Springpoint Farm in Durham, Maine. As a manager, she is responsible for organizing the horse-back riding lessons, providing care to all the horses, giving employees their tasks and responsibilities. In short she ensures that the facility runs smoothly.

Most people who would like to manage an equine facility would go to college to get a degree in equine management. In Catlin's situation, she started school, but felt she would get better experience in managing by working in the field. "There are lots of people who come out of an equine program, from college, who are still not qualified, not able to manage a facility and train successfully." Her mother impacted her by being a useful example of what she can do to handle many different personalities at work. "My mother is in the mental healthcare field and I believe she had a huge impact on teaching me how to skillfully handle all different kinds of personalities."

The experience Caitlin has been given has helped her deal with difficult clients. She likes to look at every situation that is challenging and tries to better understand the person. "I always try to find a positive way to look at things. It's easy to get caught up in the 'life and death' of any situation, you can't let it get you down." An example of a difficult situation for her is between the clients and the barn owners. When there is a conflict with a client it is difficult because the barn owners and the managers are most often not on the same page. The client is not always satisfied with the owner's decision, so many times Caitlin has to go back and make sure everyone is okay with the situation.
Caitlin deals with employees in a fun and light manner on a daily basis, unless it is a serious situation. She adopts a very careful positive demeanor so that they do not get defensive. "Instead of saying, 'Don't do it like that', I say, 'Try doing it like this, it will make it much easier.' Caitlin prefers to hire honest and hard working employees. This job is hard, so you need to be able to work through minor pain and exhaustion. "It is a hard job and you will be sore and tired after long, hard hours. It is necessary to the happiness and well being of all our horses and that is what should drive you."

One of Caitlin's least favorite tasks as a manager is scheduling all the employees' shifts. Trying to make everyone's schedules work together and accommodate their needs and the needs of the facility is difficult. "Making sure all shifts are covered is exhausting in itself." One of her favorite things about managing this business is helping people enjoy their experience at the barn. "I love helping willing people and feeling a huge sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. I like to be able to see and feel that I've made a difference in the barn and in people's lives every day."

In ten years, Caitlin would like to purchase her own equine facility with her own horses. She would focus more on a training program and reduce the amount of individual lessons. This interview gave me a better understanding of what it's like to manage a business and what skills you need to maintain an equine facility. Even though she did not finish her college degree, she is exceptionally good at her job. Being in the field has proved to be a very positive outcome for Caitlin because she is getting invaluable on-the-job experience. Many people have their degree, but do not have the work field experience to go with it. So despite not finishing college, she has managed to put herself in a stronger position than many degree holding individuals through her hard work, keen insights and deft people skills

Draft Letter Assignment for 'Peaceful Respite!'

My favorite part of my essay is that I really get to express my feelings and let the person reading it get a wider overview of me as a person. One example I shared, was my personal experience when I talked about what I need to do if life throws a curve ball at me. I feel like while you are reading it you can really imagine the room that I'm talking about and feel what I am going through. Some weaknesses I have on this piece of writing is trying to tell the reader all of the details about this room I'm talking about. It was incredibly difficult to explain the room. Some techniques I did differently from past pieces of writing is that I went to the writing center more than once. I can't write a whole essay in just one sitting and it helps to break it up into smaller bits. Breaking it down helps me put a lot more detail into the writing. I find it worked well for me because I didn't get carried away in just getting 500 words. I actually put more details into this writing than I normally would in a different piece of writing. I find this piece does not really compare to anything else that I've written in a long time, because I put such a big amount of detail into it. Making the essay 500 words long was very difficult for this piece of writing because I had to really imagine myself in the scene. I managed to get over 500 words and it doesn't sound like I just added useless sentences. It sounds like it is very well put together. I found explaining how the wind blows through the big screen doors helps the reader put themselves into the story. Explaining the surroundings more and more really worked well with this piece. I don't think there's really anything I would like to improve on this piece. I really enjoy what it is now and would not like to change it. I think one thing the reader will take away from my piece is he or she can imagine being there in the room seeing the glistening grass and the changing colors of the leaves.

A Peaceful Respite

How would you feel if you could go to a room that is out in the warmth of the sun with a gentle breeze through its large window screens? Imagine being in a quiet peaceful place where the wind whistles through the trees compelling you to notice the color of the leaves changing. Where there is just enough music softly playing in the background so you don't slip away into a light sleep. It's the type of environment that is ideal for reading any genre, whether a magazine or a novel. Sitting in a warm, silky smooth leather chair, looking up at the wall, seeing a nice painting of the ocean. When I look out the window, I see freshly cut grassy fields glimmering in the sunlight. Although the road is not too far away, you cannot hear a single car whizzing down the winding street. The first time I experienced this room was when I went to visit an old friend. I found this place to be relaxing and stress free, drawing me back when life becomes difficult.
Being in this quiet place helps me maintain a positive attitude towards other people. One of the most important things to me is treating others with respect so that they treat me with respect. One of the quotes I've heard is "People can alter their life by altering their attitude." When I am around people that have poor attitudes I need to make a better choice than they have made. Being able to go to this room helps me reflect on my response and whether I made the right decision or not.
This is a place that I enjoy going when I am feeling down from life's challenges. I like not hearing about anybody's problems and instead freeing myself in the atmosphere of the room. The atmosphere of the room is laden with a pleasant nostalgia, one that reminds me of growing up when my Mom and I would sit at my little table when no one else was home. This time with my Mom was a peaceful time away from the craziness of living with three brothers. There were no worries; it was very quiet, peaceful and scenic. This is why I enjoy this room and the memories it calls forward, even if they did not occur there.
The reason I am drawn to return to this room is because I do not have to deal with life's challenges. I can just escape into a nice scenic place where I find time to reflect on my life and see the positive. Getting away let's me recharge so that I have a clear understanding of what is important in life. I feel not many people have the chance to go to a quiet place. They get caught up in life and everything that they need to do on a daily basis. If people could have a place or room to relax every day even for just five minutes they would enjoy life a lot more. I think it would help people with every day struggles to make a more positive society. I feel privileged to have a room where I can go and all here is to think about is the beautiful surroundings of nature.
